Online casinos are sometimes described as “green” simply because they need no building, no chips and no paper. The reality is less tidy: every game round, video stream and crypto payment runs on electricity somewhere. Where the energy goes
- Servers and data centres. Accounts, payments and the random number generators of the games run on servers, usually operated by the game providers and hosting companies rather than by the casino brand itself.

Crypto payments: proof-of-work and proof-of-stake
The cryptocurrencies a network uses matter far more for energy than the casino does. Proof-of-work networks (such as Bitcoin) secure transactions through mining, which consumes large amounts of electricity across the network. Proof-of-stake networks secure transactions through validators who lock up coins, which needs only a small fraction of that energy. Ethereum switched from proof-of-work to proof-of-stake in September 2022 (“the Merge”); according to the Ethereum Foundation this reduced its energy use by orders of magnitude.

Two caveats from the operator’s own pages. First, the cashier was shown to a visitor located outside the site’s language markets, and the terms state that payment methods depend on country and currency (T&C 59.1), so your list may differ. The same FAQ says it “cannot accept mobile screenshots, cropped or scanned files”, yet asks for a screenshot as proof of an e-wallet — a contradiction worth knowing about before you upload. Nothing needs to be printed or posted, which is convenient, but it is the normal way of working online rather than an environmental policy.
